Michael Jordan was born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1963 and grew up in Wilmington, North Carolina. He began playing basketball at a young age and went on to become one of the greatest basketball players of all time. After a successful college career at the University of North Carolina, Jordan was drafted by the Chicago Bulls in 1984. He quickly established himself as a dominant force in the NBA, leading the Bulls to six championships over the course of his career. Jordan retired from basketball in 1999, but returned briefly in 2001 and 2003 to play for the Washington Wizards.
In addition to his basketball career, Jordan has had success as a businessman, particularly in his partnership with Nike to create the "Air Jordan" brand of sneakers, which remains one of the most successful and recognizable athletic shoe lines in history.
Despite his success, Jordan has faced criticisms over the years for his lack of political activism, his highly competitive nature, and his involvement in controversial business ventures. Nevertheless, he remains an iconic figure in sports and popular culture.
